Music

Have you ever been asked what your favorite song is?

Music seems to be something that speaks to the soul of so many people. Be it a sad song after a break-up or possibly a song of celebration. I recall during the medal ceremonies during the Olympics when the camera would zoom in on people tearing up as their nation’s national anthem was played … music has an ability to speak to us.

I tend to be a bit shy when singing at church. I know why it is that way...as a child singing was used as punishment in my Sunday School program in the Roman Catholic Church. If we did not memorize our prayers or know the answers to questions, some teachers would make us stand in front of the K-12 Sunday School and sing … and then in front of the entire congregation. Not fun.

Then, years later, I became Lutheran. And we all know that many Lutherans love to sing, and chant, and sing.

For me, I am a huge fan of musicals. When on longer drives or commutes I tend to be more confident to sing along with the music in the car. Sometimes Craig and I may both be singing and it’s probably a good thing that the doors and windows are shut. But we have a lot of fun.

Scripture does say, after all, make a joyful noise. It says nothing about the noise being in tune.

So I’m curious - what is your favorite song?

Be on the lookout for more information in the coming weeks about our plans to begin assembling choir - along with additional ministry opportunities. When we celebrate our homecoming Sunday members of Council will happily engage you in conversation about all the wonderful ministries at St. Stephen’s.

Until then - share with all of us what your favorite song is!

Yours in Christ,

Pastor Jason
