A very good friend texted Sue the other day asking for prayers for herself, as she is dealing with a new and serious medical diagnosis, and for a member of her extended family, who is also dealing with a difficult medical condition.  Sue and I added her and her family, of course, to our prayers.

Friends have come into our lives from many different directions.  Some are the members of our families.  Some we have known since we were young kids in grade school.  Some we met in college.  Some we met at work.  Some we met at church.  Some are our current or former neighbors.  Some are just acquaintances.  Some are very, very close.

Regardless of how we first connected, these people in our lives make such a difference.  There was a time a number of years ago when I thought about what it would be like to have all the money I could ever need but be stranded with it on a deserted island.  What would be the point?  For me, it is the interconnectedness with others that is vital to living.

So, I am truly grateful for all of my friends.  Friends who have helped me through difficult times, friends who have offered guidance and direction, friends who have shared once-in-a-lifetime experiences, friends who have laughed at my puns.

Now, in return, thank you to all who call me their friend.

Lutheran Church Wilmington

As a Reconciling in Christ congregation of the ELCA, we believe that the gospel is God's gift to all people, shared unconditionally and without regard to race, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, socio-economic or family status, age, physical or mental abilities, outward appearance, or religious affiliation. We seek racial equality and justice. In this way, we live into the truth written in Ephesians (2:14)—that Christ breaks down the dividing walls between us and makes us one.
