It is estimated that 5 million people in the United States live in substandard conditions. Ssome of these people include families in Wilmington and New Castle County. Many are struggling to provide even the most basic needs, like food, electricity and a safe place to live. That can change—with your help.
Thrivent Financial for Lutherans has partnered with Habitat for Humanity to build homes across the United States in a four-year program. Wilmington area Lutheran churches participated in this project and built one home in each of 2006 and 2007. In 2008, we will build two homes. Locally, you can contact Ann or Dave Warner, 302-762-2389, david.warner@comcast.net or visit www.thriventbuilds.com for additional information or to volunteer.
You can lead by example
Changing lives by working side-by-side with families to build their homes comes from the heart. It is an experience that may inspire you to do even more. Churches that have participated in this project are:
Grace, Concordia, St. Stephen's, St. Paul's, St. Philip's, St. Mark's, Zion, Our Reedemer, Good Shepherd. Participating congregations provide volunteer labor and 10% of the funding for the construction. Primary funding is provided by Thrivent Builds with additional funds coming from Habitat for Humanity. You are welcome to participate with us in this project, even if you are not actively participating in a Lutheran congregation.
