Christian Education
The goal of Christian Education at St. Stephen’s is to provide age-appropriate Sunday morning religious education for children: infants through twelfth grade. The education is a valuable and integral part of our children’s faith lives, irrespective of an any other instruction they may receive.
Christian Education is available for all ages. Unless otherwise stated, classes are held from 9-10 am, Sunday mornings, September-May.
- Nursery: nursery age children are given the opportunity to play in a safe setting, and receive a basic introduction to Christian teachings.
- Grades 1-12: Weekly lessons are geared to the Bible readings heard during the worship service. Lessons include age appropriate activities. Children are also encouraged to participate in the musical activities (nursery-2nd grade, 3rd-6th grade). The children's choirs regularly participate in the worship service.
- Bible-Readers Group: Adults spend each Sunday reading through the Bible, with informal discussion. Participants can join anytime. This group meets year-round.
- Adult Education: Varying topics are scheduled for adult discussion.
- Grades 7-8 Confirmation: Students in these grades meet with Pastor Hummel for more indepth study of the Christian faith and the Lutheran church. These classes are typically held on Sunday evening, but are arranged around the availability of participants. Completion of the two years of study leads to confirmation and adult membership in the congregation.
- Downtown Bible Study: Workers and residents of downtown Wilmington are invited to join this Bible study which encourages participants to examine a Bible lesson in terms of its Biblical context and relation to current life.
